BETHLEN ALMANAC 131 EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Pastor: Rev. Kalman Csia Officers: Chief Elder: Prank Pagyas Jr.; elders: Joseph Ulber, Frank Poi; controller: Frank Belinsky Jr; treasurer: Nick Mehan; secretary: Moses Chepregi Jr; tustees: James Labas, William Molnár Sr. and John Henyecz. We had a big change in our church life last year. The elders changed the by-laws of our church to increase the dues of the members, with the permission of the members. Our church paid its debt of $26,000 for the newly purchased land. Only $16,000 of this amount was paid by the members. We hope that in a short while they will pay also the balance of this amount to the church treasury. Our Ladies Aid elected a new president, Mrs. Wm. Molnár Sr. Her good will with the help of the members accomplished much for this church. She made many personal sacrifices, too. Under her guidance and leadership, the parsonage was repainted and the stairs were covered with linoleum. The Ladies Aid also donated $1,000 to the Property Fund this year. The Women’s Guild President is Mrs. Michael Rooney. The Women’s work was an outstanding example to the rest of the church. They had donated over $3,000 to the church for debt’s reduction. They took an active interest in al lchurch affairs. In their meetings, they placed the main accent on Bible Study. Our Friendship Circle President is Moses Chepregi Jr. They had varied interests; mainly the study of Bible and erlated subjects. They also took their share of the Church’s affairs. Moses Chepregi Jr. is also the leader of the Youth Fellowship. The Youth Fellowship has meetings three times a month. The Senior Choir’s Director is Mrs. Joseph Ulber. The Senior Choir had a very fine record this year. The organists are Miss Irma Kadar, Mrs. Carole Koleta and the assistant organist is Miss Virginia Lakatos. The pride of our Church is the Sunday School. This Institution inspired many a boy and girl who went on to College. The directors of the Sunday School are Mrs. Charles Tarr and Miss Esther Poi. The success of last year showes that the true members of our church were inspired by God and His son our Lord Jesus Christ. FLINT, Mich. — Pastor: Rev. Andrew Nagy Flint is the center of the auto industry in Michigan. Most of the population find employment in the enormous factories of General Motor making Buick and Chevrolet cars. It is an old and beautiful city with over 175,000 population comprised of many nationalities. According to the Federal Council of Churches, there are 220 churches in this city. Its educational efforts and opportunities are well-known around the nation. The Hungarian Reformed Church was established in 1917 under the leadership of Alexander Mircse. Since then 5 ministers served this congregation which now has all the necessary facilities to fulfill its vocation. No outstanding event, such as jubilee, marked the year of 1959. But it is noteworthy that we bought a Hammond organ for $2,600; beautified the parsonage with aluminum siding; made extensive repairs on the church building. In our organizations (Consistory, Ladies’ Aid, Women’s Guild, Bible Study, Sunday School, etc.), we try to follow the program of our denomination and deepen the spiritual life of our church. During the first half of 1959 there were 4 christenings and 4 funerals in the church. GARY, Ind. — Student pastor: Mr. Louis Kajatin The synodical meeting heard the report in April, 1959 that this congregation extensively repaired the church last year.
