Bethlen Almanac

128 BETHLEN ALMANAC president: “Under the able leadership of its new pastor, this congregation continues to travel on the promising road which was envisioned during the thirteen and a half years Rev. Bela Bacsó served at Fairport Harbor. The new pastor was installed on June 1. The basement of the church building was remodeled during the past year and cost about $25,000. 130 children attend the Sunday School. Miss Ethel Molnár, our Synodical Children’s Worker led the second workshop for the Sunday School Teachers in two years. Churchmen’s Brotherhood and Women’s Guild were organized. Also the Kossuth Circle was formed in order to provide an oppotunity fo the younge generation to get acquainted with the Hungarian culture and tradition.” TOLEDO, Ohio — Pastor: Rev. Andrew E. Harto Last year the congregation elected Rev. Harto to the position which became vacant by the resignation of Rev. Dr. Joseph Zsiros who returned to Hope College as professor of Classic Greek. In his last report to the congregation, Dr. Zsiros emphasized the Calvinistic concept of the church: “The Church of Jesus Christ ultimately has only one true purpose, namely, to glorify God... 52 English, 53 Hungarian, 10 combined and 55 week-day services were held last year... Church attendance of Sundays was 15,216, that is 63.6 % of the regular membership... Altogether 2,133 communicant members received the blessing of the Loi'd’s Supper (69.3%). Last year 72 sick persons were visited by the pastor 342 times . . . The Consistory and church societies (the Lorantffy Women’s Society, the Molnár Maria Mission Circle, the Women’s Missionary Guild, the Mary Martha Circle, the Christian Men’s Brotherhood, the Bowling League, Youth Fellowship, the two choirs, the Boy Scouts and Cubs, etc.) were working faithfully and sacrificially for the church... With deepest gratitude toward God we remember the late Mr. C. Eperjesi who gave our church his house according to his last will... I close with the words of the pious Psalmist: Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the Most High. Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.(Psalm.50:14-15)” WESTERN CLASSIS OFFICERS: Rev. Desmund Parragh, president; Rev. Frank A. Endrei, secretary.
