Alexander Silay TOTAL—December 31, 1957: 420812 4441 1801622 18053670,90015,436 As you may have noted, we still have 24 bilingual churches, some of them growing and others just struggling for their existence. The Philadelphia church is not reporting. Which means that the figures given above are from 23 churches only. Two of our churches, Throop Logan and Kingston Second, have given up their bilingual identity. Caldwell and Scranton are not listed anymore. Six of the 24 churches have changed their names. The Year’s Addition and Loss Columns reveal the sad fact that our losses exceeded our additions by 392. We find that two churches have no Sunday school; two congregations do not list any infant baptisms; and two have not contributed to Benevolences. In all earnestness I must say that the pastors of these churches are doing yeoman service for the Kingdom by remaining, struggling and dying where they are. They are actually serving three congregations in one, whose problems are not only divergent but often saturated with racial tensions. Their faithfulness is amazing. The 24 churches are situated in 18 presbyteries. In 1957 these 24 churches have also contributed 2,437 dollars to the support of the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pa.
