Church digest for our second and third generations

BETHLEN NAPTÁR 195 WALLINGFORD, CONN, recently paid all its debts on a nicely remodeled church and parsonage. Their young pastor is the Rev. Arpad Beretz, educated both in America and Hungary. He is emphasizing spiritual life in his congregation. MIAMI, FLA. is our southernmost outpost and our newest congregation, which was organized by its first pastor, the Rev. Anthony Peter. This congregation broke ground last year for its new church and recreation hall, which will be called Kossuth Hall. HOMESTEAD, PA., an old congregation with young spirit, led by their learned pastor, the Rev. Julius Paal, remodeled its church and social hall recently. The pastor celebrated his tenth anniversary in the ministry and was honored by his congregation at a testimonial banquet. PITTSBURGH, PA., one of the first Hungarian churches in the United States, is now preparing to celebrate its sixtieth anni­versary. The Rev. Louis Varga, pastor of the congregation for the past 25 years, was recently elected overseer of the old people of the Bethlen Home. The Pittsburgh Church has a fine choir. RANKIN, PA. is affiliated with the Homestead Church and is served by the same minister. The 35th anniversary of the con­gregation was celebrated last year in the newly remodeled church. JOHNSTOWN, PA. This fifty-year-old congregation elected a young pastor last year in the person of the Rev. Aron Elek, who is bringing new spirit to an old group, which has under­gone many changes and hardships. The new pastor is laying special stress on youth work. LOGAN, W. VA. This old Hungarian congregation of miners is supplied by the pastor of the Pocahontas charge. MONONGAHELA, PA., which is a congregation of a few mining families, is served by the pastor of our Brownsville Hun­garian Presbyterian Church. MORGANTOWN, W. VA.—UNIONTOW, PA. are served by one minister, the Rev. Arpad Bernath, who was installed into this joint pastorate last year. He is also a district manager of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. The two con­­regations are contemplating the purchase of a new house of worship in a centralized location.
