Bethlen Naptár, 1951 (Ligonier)

To our second generation. Superindent's semi-annual report of the activities and life in the Bethlen Home

202 BETHLEN NAPTÁR bountiful blessings on his life and his work for the Kingdom. During the month of May another outstanding event which took place at the Bethlen Home was the meeting of the Magyar Synod of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, during which time 70 official delegates met in conference for four days. It has always been a privilege to receive as our guests those pastors and elders who through the years have demonstrated their charitableness toward the Bethlen Home. We hope they will continue to hold our institution in their high esteem and never relinquish their support. In addition to the above mentioned events, the Lenten Season, Holy Week, Good Friday, Easter, Ascension Day, Pentecost, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, as well as Children’s Day, were appropriately observed with services in our chapel. With the exception of two cases, no serious objections were raised against the conduct of the old folks. The general health of the old guests, taking into consideration their advanced age, was average. Thirty-two took sick, necessitating 38 visits from physicians. Seven, of whom three died, were admitted to the hospital. In addition to medical and hospital care, all those old guests who needed attention at home were attended once a week by a professional nurse. Daily morning devotions, the Sunday and special holiday services were duly and regularly held for our old folks. Including the delegates to the aforementioned synodical meeting, as well as the relatives and friends who attended the funeral of the late Dr. Kalassay, a total of 446 guests visited our Home during the first half year. After years of use, the dishes and silverware stock had to be replenished in all three homes in order to take care of our daily needs, as well as special occasions, such as conferences. This latter expenditure was $400.00, which included the purchase of a new rotary mixer. Special work and investments in the Old People’s Home included the furnishing of the Rev. and Mrs. Béla Kováes’s room at a cost of $119.00; installation of a new motor in the refrigerator; repairing of the washing machine and mangle; and new wiring in the basement, as well as on the first floor.
