Paul Reid Pontius: My adopted family

248 BETHLEN NAPTAR The Ványi family — in Hungary Lajos Irma Mrs. Vanyi Zoltán Erika so understanding and helpful to his mother, tried to be “The Man of the House”. He is a bright, studious boy with some musical talent. Before Christmas last year, he was one of a group of school children selected to sing carols. They were taken by bus to Budapest to render a program and, later, to a broadcasting studio to have it transcribed. Lajos, not contented to have his mother express his thanks, has written me himself in behalf of his sisters and brother. These notes are exceptionally well composed and in a good hand for a person of his age. From these letters I could imagine the joy and gratitude caused by the arrival of a package, to say nothing of the pleasure brought to me by their wonderful letters of thanks. I have received from them pictures of Budapest, cards, and a beautiful hand made doily, for which I, in turn, am most appreciative. Deeply touched, I shall always cherish this rich Christian experience. Now I feel that I have actually been following the instructions of our Lord in Matthew 25:31-46! Too soon it had to end! But we can continue to pray for each other and also hope that the time will soon come when this service will be permitted. It has indeed been a wonderful experience! For it I am deeply indebted to our dear friends — the Kecskemethys.
