Junior Column

A wiser man

I saw a lad all dressed in rags,

Walking down a dirty street;

Now and then he’d glance with shame Down at his bare and dirty feet.

He would wander day by day Along the same old lane,

Begging, hunting, and searching,

But it was all in vain.

His dad was also walking Along the streets so bare.

He could not ride a street car Because he could not pay the fare.

He stepped into an office,

To seek a job with pay,

But he heard the same old saying,

“No help wanted today.”

Now this lad is a man,

And holds a job with pay,

Because he is a Wobbly,

And attends their meeting every day.

Many times ha has wondered Why his dad had never thought Of these, the famous Wobblies,

And the card he could have bought.

But he sees now why his dad didn’t take A Wobbly card so Red.

Because of the evil propaganda Which the bosses to him had fed.

This lad is very glad himself To be one of a mighty mass;

He knows he’s not a capitalist —

But belongs to the working class!

A personality for who’s who

Continuing with the current trend of analyzing people I am submitting this one to the “Who’s who.”

She is a Junior Wobbly possessing a fair degree of intelligence and is of average build and features.

Amazing to say, she is the exact counterprat of thousands of other Juniors about the country. In labor circles her voice is heard occasionally and when the “Bérmunkás” arives, her interest in it is manifested by her wild dash to the mail box.

Now here is the fly in the pudding: Despite her evident interest in the column, she will not, positively, write an article for it. Her reasons are futile and various as she is either :oo busy, has nothing to write about, or is afraid that her composing ability is too mediocre.

When someone has given her an idea and offers to help her with the difficult parts of the article, she decides to put it off till some future date when she “feels in the mood.”

There is no cure at all in the world for this individual; The trouble lies wholly within herself. If she gets up enough determination to pick up a pen and write, the results would please even her I’m sure.

As I said before, she is the exact counterpart of thousands of other Juniors, male and female. — The unresponsive Junior Wobbly.

1936 április 14. TISZTELT MUNKÁSTÁRSAK:

A kerületi értekezlet nyomán és a hozott határozatok értelmében taggyűlést hívtunk egybe a fenti napra, melyen az alulírottak jelentünk meg.

Hogy önök miért nem jöttek el azt nem tudjuk, de távolmaradásukkal lehetetlenné tették jogerős határozatok hozatalát.

Ennélfogva még egy kísérletet teszünk és lapunk nyilvánossága előtt szólítjuk fel mindazokat, akik közösséget éreznek az IWW mozgalmával, hogy jelenjenek meg május hó 2-án, szombat este 8 órára a Bérmunkás Otthonban megtartandó gyűlésen.

NAPIREND: 1.) A Bérmunkás Otthon ügye; 2.) A magyar propaganda és a májusi kampány; 3.) Interpellációk.

Úgy érezzük, hogy némi felelősség hárul mindazokra, akik a helyiség megteremtésében közreműködtek és nem tartjuk helyesnek e mozgalmunkra fontos kérdésben önök nélkül dönteni.

Sajnálattal kell megállapítanunk, hogy a háztulajdonos ebben a kérdésben — hacsak haladéktalanul nem intézkedünk — valamennyiünk meghallgatása nélkül fog dönteni.

S ha önök ezt akarják? Úgy, akkor is jöjjenek el a szombati gyűlésre és férfiasán vállalják a felelősséget.

cimü kacagtató vígjátékot. Színre kerül a legjobb new yorki erőkkel még egy színdarab és több müsorszám. Előadás után kitűnő zene mellett tánc. Belépti jegy ára 35c. Legyünk ott tömegesen.

Columbus discovered America, and Hudson the Hudson River, etc. But who will discover the Road to Peace? Columbus needed ships and money, but the Road to Peace doesn’t and one man canot discover it, but all men must. To do this they must “unite.”

Today there are many organizations but they will never find the right trail. But men join these unions because they are promised a better living. The right road is very close but man is afraid to see it. If the wealthy men of the nation are not afraid to show their strength why should the poor masses be afraid to unite and show theirs.

They don’t need amunition, they need brains. So they should join one organization and all work for the same end.

Every man should know the biggest, greatest and best organization which will help men to find the Road to Peace, is the One Big Union, the Industrial Workers of the World. So join the parade found the who have already found the right road. Help them realize their dreams of decent, fair living.

DEAR ANN,

A grave, injustice has been committed. Velma Saytos, in her “Who’s who,” has put down in writing for the whole World to see, the fact that I am 5 feet 8 inches tall! I am all of five feet eleven inches in height, I’ll have you know. Otherwise, the description was perfect.

Maurice West seems to be all right and I’d like to meet him sometime. Perhaps at the Wobbly convention on July 4th.
