He was a co-founder of the periodical titled Építő Ipar, "Building Industry". From 1895 on he was the vice-president of the National Hungarian Association of Applied Arts and in the same year he was elected the vice-president of the Hungarian Art Association. Győző Czigler had been a lecturer with the Technical University from 1887 up until his death. In the academic year 1890-91 he was the dean of the Engineering Faculty. With Gyula Kabdebó he was a co-author of the book titled Az építőművészet története, "The History of Architectural Art", (1903). Here is an excerpt from the commemoration that art historian Károly Lyka wrote about him: "Czigler saw the way of architectural progress in the reconstruction of bygone styles canonized by architectural history in a variety of systems. Thus he had no association of whatsoever with modern art: actually, he held the most conservative views against it.” Alajos Hauszmann commemorated his fellow architect at the burial as follows: "Representing his department, he promoted the classical principles of architecture in their original clarity and was keenly aware of having to imprint the rules of Greco- Roman architecture in the memory of the young generation so as to provide them with a firm foundation of knowledge that would define theirtastes by forming a rocky soil on which they can build and find their own way to happiness." Győző Czigler typically and predominantly cultivated eclecticism based on Neo- Renaissance although he also experimented with medieval styles: in the case of the church he designed forVerebély (today: Vráble, Slovakia) with the Romanesgue and the one for Munkács (today: Ukraine] with Gothicism. He was a master of strict architectural Historicism prevailing the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Hungary. After his death the Association of Hungarian Engineers and Architects founded a memorial medal in his honour bearing his name and portrait. This prize is awarded year by year to a member of the architectural department who delivered the most excellent lecture at the general assemblies of the public projects and architectural departments.
