NO. 9, 1896 PESTI HAZAI ELSŐ TAKARÉKPÉNZTÁR, BUDAPEST, VII. KÉR., ERZSÉBET KORÚT 1., 1892 FIRST HUNGARIAN SAVINGS BANK OF PEST, BUDAPEST, DISTRICT VII, ERZSÉBET BLVD. NO. 1, 1892 its elegant neighbourhood of the former Sugárút (Avenue, today: Andrássy Road). On the ground floor with ashlar effects an arched row of openings was made for the businesses housed there. The first and second floors are emphasized by characteristic opening frames and balconies. The third mezzanine-like storey tops the classical mature facade with a balustraded cornice. The rich interiors abound in works by Károly Lotz and Miksa Róth. Precious contributions to them are the stone surfaces, the gilded members, the artistic wrought-iron details and the fireplace made of marble from Carrara. Modern contemporary technologies, such as the central heating system and a dinner lift, are also integrated into the building. The facade of the tenement house in Bakáts Square is an example of a plane-like spatial wall with graphic effects. It is yet another building Czigler designed by integrating the first two levels and finishing the brick elevation with projecting eaves. From the 1890s on, Czigler received more and more commissions the success of which in turn earned him further clients and projects. The tenement palace of the University Fund in Kossuth Lajos Street came to house the architects' new studio as well. The ground floor and the first storey contained retails and businesses whilst the second one was home to the Hungarian Association of Engineers and Architects, the third and fourth functioned as private housing, and the attic was used as the fifth floor including a photographer's studio. The corner building is topped by a cupola motif which was a trademark of Czigler’s architecture. Czigler started designing the Hadik- Barkóczy tenement palace in Károly Boulevard for the purposes of the Hadik estate fee tail. Formerly there had been SAXLEHNER-PALOTA. BUDAPEST, VI.
