a row of aluminium windows was added to the single-storey entrance wing whilst preserving the pierced masonry parapet. This secondary structure allowed the building to contain the Department of Building Engines and Conveyors. The new floor featured a central corridor and contained staff-rooms, stores and wet areas facing the Campus, whilst smaller unlit rooms were furnished above the ground-floor corridor. This AZ ÉSZAKI HOMLOKZAT KIVITELI TERVE. 1906 DETAIL OF THE NORTH ELEVATION, 1906 intervention did not necessitate the reinforcement of the foundation, the original coffer slab R-C cover panel. However, the brick vaulting above the foyer was demolished, as the new three-flight R-C stairwell was now contained within the foyer. The entrance gateway and the glass partition of the windbreak were replaced by new ones. In 2004 a new Engines Workshop was furnished after walling off the western part of Hall No. 1 facing Bertalan Lajos Street. This is where the engines were moved after the demolition of the small annex facing the Physics Building. As a result, the building had better chances to have its original harmonious volume recognizable once again. Although there might not be much prospect for the demolition of larger-scale annexes now, restoring the masonry parapets walled as solid ones recently would be most welcome as it could still evoke the spectacular architecture designed by Samu Pecz.
