A Központi épület - The Central Building Zsembery Ákos

_■ 1 26 o Cl => CD < Between 1963 and 1965 the third storey of the Danube wing was built in. Originally, in line with the former concept by Csonka, this extension was designed with a corridor overlooking the internal courtyard and skylight lecture rooms to retain the riverside facade. However, the plans made by the Public Buildings Design Company [KÖZTI) were revised and the southern wing was built with the study group rooms facing the internal courtyard in the logic still visible today. In 1966 the third-storey drawing rooms of the northern wing were remodelled. Between 1966 and 1969 the Auditorium Maximum was modernized in several stages. In 1970 another reconstruction took place within the former Assembly Hall. By demolishing the lecture rooms built in 1955, the Szkéné theatre was furnished here. As it was built on a former flood area, the Central Building has been sinking all the time since its inauguration with varying speed. It was a phenomenon probably observed at an early stage, but data of the measurements have been available since the 1920s only. The absolute subsidence of the southern wing which has sunk the most reaches 50 centimetres since the inauguration of the building. To stop this the southern part of the building perpendicular to the Danube was reinforced by jet-grouting in 2002. Although the plans for the second stage of foundation reinforcement had been made, the project has not been continued so far. In 2008 the reconstruction of the roof structure and coverings was launched and continued between 2009 and 2011 in three stages. The University treasures the documents in its design archives that contain the surveys made from time to time. The latest comprehensive survey of the present-day conditions of the Central Building was performed in 2011 which also documents the new numbering system of the rooms. In 2013 the majority of the mezzanine and first-storey corridors were restored along with the Auditorium Maximum. As of today, when this book is being written, the reconstruction of the crown cornice of the northern facade is underway. Thanks to Hauszmann's imposing spatial organisation and the mature concept, the Central Building is still suited to meet the ever-changing requirements after more than a century of its existence. The main areas have preserved their original glorious beauty, with the exception of the Assembly Hall. Although programmes are more suitingly hosted in the Aula nowadays, the reconstruction of the Assembly Hall to its original design and glory would be most welcome. épitetu fitdüs siakertu (yxáJmster) AZ ELLENÁRAMÚ TANMEDENCE ENGEDÉLYEZÉSI TERVE REVERSE CURRENT POOL HOUSE, PERMIT PLAN
