the Aula and the pierced inserts of those in the stairwell were also made of pyrogranite. The entrance to the Central Building was graced with allegorical stone statues representing technical sciences (the four faculties of the university). The four double life-sized female figures embodied engineering, architecture, mechanics and chemical engineering. Made in 1909, they were works of sculptor Károly Senyei. The most ornate parts of the building were the foyer, the roofed courtyard, the two grand staircases and the rooms of the rectorate. Except for the Assembly Hall, no murals were made for this building. Hauszmann started design work in Autumn, 1905 and finished the designs of the central building by the beginning of 1906. Building permit was issued on June 20th, 1906. Thus on August 2nd excavations started.
