Report on the Activities of Professor Dr. Árpád Kezdi during his residency at Princeton University 13 September 1963 to 7 January 1964 Based on an agreement between the Inter-University Committee on Travel Grants (Bloomington, Indiana) and the Institute of Cultural Relations (Budapest, Hungary), Professor Kezdi received a fellowship for 1963/64. He arrived in the United States on September 13, 1963 and spent his time from that day until January 7, 1964 in Princeton, New Jersey at the Department of Civil Engineering of Princeton University. His activities at the University covered the following items: (1) Participation in the courses: CE 501, Soil Stabilization, Professor Winterkorn CE 511, Water Front Structures, Professor Tschebotarioff (2) Field trips to New York (Port Authority), to Philadelphia (Delaware River Port Authority); to New York (ASCE - convention); Philadelphia (ASCE Convention on Engineering Education); to Cambridge, Massachusetts (visiting Professor Arthur Casagrand and MIT Soil Mechanics Laboratory); visit of the firm King & Gavaris, Consulting Engineers, New York, New York and the Soils Department: Tippetts-Abbett-McCarthy- Stratton, New York, New York. (3) Preparation and delivery of the following formal lectures: a) Earth Pressure Theories (Special Lecture in Professor Tschebotarioff's class, October 11.) b) Stress distribution in Soils(Special Lecture in Professor Tschebotarioff's class, October 25.) c) Bearing Capacity of Piles (Civil Engineering Seminar, November 5.) d) Stability of Slopes (Civil Engineering Seminar November 19.) (4) Teaching all classes of CE 501, Soil Stabilization, during the week of November 17. (5) Preparation of text and figures of the lectures given under (3) and (4) for publication in mimeographed form by the Civil Engineering Department of Princeton University (100 pages, 108 figures).
