ZOLTÁN MÉSZÁROS PEOPLE'S CASINO - PUCKA KASINA IN SUBOTICA The essay summarizes the history of the Catholic Serbians' People's Casino which was the "source of every good thing" for them. We get to know more about its operation, the controlling of the Casino and its role in saving the Catholic Serbians' customs particularly in connection with the "Prelo" (spinning room). It can also be detected from the essay how Catholic Serbians could adapt to the Hungarian society of the era, who were their intellectual managers and last but not least how the interests of the Casino and the whole Catholic Serbian community were not taken into account. GÁBOR CSERI CHAPTERS FROM THE HISTORY OF THE LACE-MAKERS' HOUSE OF KISKUNHALAS There have already been a lot of monographs about the lace of Halas. This one tries to show the efforts for establishing and later maintaining the Lace-makers' House of Kiskunhalas. The origin of the lace of Halas is associated with the names of Árpád Dékáni drawing-teacher of a secondary school and Mária Markovics lace-maker who made the first sewn lace on the basis of Dékáni's plans. The survival of the lace of Halas in the decades after Dékáni's moving to Budapest was owned to Mária Markovics and her colleagues. By the end of the 1920s the Lace-maker's House got into a serious crisis. The workshop could escape with the help of dr Imre Fekete mayor's lobby. The opening ceremony of the Lace-maker's House was 23 June, 1935. Bearing folk art point of view in mind, the equipment of the House can be a disputable point but the tourism of Kiskunhalas had benefited from it. There were 4100 visitors who signed in its visitors-book in half a year. After increasing the marketing procedure of the lace the number of makers had to be increased, as well, almost for 100 makers. Therefore, the Lace-maker's House needed to be enlarged so 6 June 1939 a new part was built. In the following years the House had to face different difficulties, one of the most threatening was the war. The socialist industry was against the operation of the workshop, too. In 1947 in a part of the House there was a weaving course. With state support 16 June 1952 they established the Homecraft Cooperative of Kiskunhalas which got the building of the Lace-makers' House to set up its seat there. This order stopped the independence of the workshop as the Cooperative had other divisions producing other kinds of products. After winding up the Cooperative, the Foundation for Lace of Halas which was established in 1992 by the local self-
