Public Park design in Budapest during the second half of the 19th Century
Margit Park with Margaret Bridge in the background, 1900 / FORTEPAN - Noémi Saly paved area formed out of circles and ovals. On the southern side of this area a circular element created an accent, most probably a flower bed. The spatial alignment of the southern areas of the northern garden was created out of circles and bows. The park around the Pest side of the bridgehead was called Rudolf Park, and the first news of its construction were published in 1905 in the journal A Kert.225 In 1911 the municipal council made a decision about the costs of the creation of the park.226 In the same decision they also instructed Keresztély Ilsemann to start work at a suitable time. The exact plans of the parks are not known, as with the Buda side, city maps and Károly Räde’s later plans give some information about the spatial structure of the park.
