By the beginning of the 21st century the city has become a real centre of knowledge, with the leadership of the University of Miskolc. Within the university there are faculties of art and music and a college for health officers too. The book introduces ten high schools, and provides facts about twenty technical schools. Most of them were founded in the 20th century, and are being changed according to the needs of the 21st. Postcards were published of almost all of the hotels, coffee bars and confectioner's in the early 19th century. The contemporary press also recorded important information, like advertisements of different programmes. The history (renovations) of the "Hotel Pannónia" on the comer of Kossuth and Széchenyi streets can be followed from the 16th century and it welcomes guests still today. During the last few years a garage and a conference hall has been added to the old hotel in a separate building. Outside the city, in Tapolca and Lillafüred, many restaurants and guest-houses have been built recently, till in the city centre there are only few new restaurants and hotels. The "Lévai Panzió", the 'Öreg Miskolcz" (Old Miskolc) and the "City Hotel" combine the former coffee bars and confectioner shops and described in the book too.
