ment. The first free presspaper entitled Free Hungary appeared. The maintenance of law and order and the reestablishment of public security were carried out by the Soviet military forces and besides them by MOKAN, an armed unit, formed out of members of the resistance movement and later on supplemented through recruiting. Communist and social democratic organized workers began the reconstruction of the workshops and production. The spontaneously active and evolving on local initiative popular democratic revo­lution was given a new impulse in the middle of December when it could join the nation-wide movement through delegates of the Hungarian National Front of Indepen­dence. The National Committee of Miskolc had been formed and it also had the whole county in its sphere of authority. The members of the Provisory National Assembly for Miskolc and Diósgyőr had been elected. István Oszip, a worker from Diósgyőr-Vasgyár, delivered a speech attracting attention on the session of the National Assembly, one of the two women-members of the National Assembly was from Miskolc, and the first pre­sident of the Provisory National Assembly was elected out of the members for Miskolc. Through the election of council the local power organization of proletarian dictatorship, i. e. the village council had been set up in the village Szentsimon as well. This political change raised original questions. The laying of the foundations of socialism brought up the problem of collectivization of agriculture more and more urgently. It has been detailed in the study. The history of collectiviziation is divided into three parts. In the first one the organization of co-operatives is shown betweeen 1950—53. In the following part the effect of К. V. decision of June 1953 is analysed up to spring 1957, then the completion of collectivization is outlined between 1959—62. The period, during which the foundatic is of socialism had been laid, meant the beginning of a significant social change, which would result in the gradual cessation of leading a double life in the long run. The cult of personality and the counter-revolution had left their mark on the manifestations of political life, but the right policy of the Hun­garian Socialist Workers’ Party was getting the upper hand. We can witness the gradual spreading of socialistic culture while the state of education is being analysed. As a concluding thought I have tried to outline the perspectives of socialism con­cerning this village through some statistical figures demonstrating the progress.
