The black books of the ironworks in Rimamurány—Salgótarján, 1902-1940 Pál Nemesik The study presents two historical documents from the life of the mining works and ironworks of „Rimamurányi”. One of the documents contains data of those workers who had been laid off on account of disciplinary offences at Sheet Iron Works of Borsodnádasd between 1902 and 1916; and who cannot have been engaged there again. The other document comprehends all the important works of „Rimamurányi” and contains data from 1911 to 1940. The author calls this volume the „black book” of the company. First the author discusses matters of form concerning the documents. Then he analyses the contents of the „black books” beginning with the one from Nádasd and continued with that of the company. He tells the number of workers laid off and the justification for their lay-off beginning with the most innocent cases (laziness, remissness) up to the revolutionary attitude of exploited workers of „rimái” (putting down of tools, strike, subversive activity). As for the case of Borsodnádasd he comes to the conclusion that workers leading a double life had a more revolutionary spirit than industrial workers living at colonies. Concerning the company the case was reverse during the strike in the steel-works of Korompa in 1912 followed with mass lay-off. As shown by the example of the works in Ózd we can determine well how the policy of the works „Rimamurányi” had changed as a result of reorganization waves of the twenties. In the critical period it was not the organizing workers but the economic depression which explains the increase in the number of laid off workers. Miskolc becoming a municipal borough, 1907-1909 Mrs. Péter Seres The period between 1907 and 1909 was an important phase in the history of Miskolc. The study deals with the events preceding and leading up to the formation, certain stages in the struggle for independence, with the circumstances of enacting municipal law, the work of organization concerning the new administration, political, economic problems and organization of the transformation. In the period after 1870 reforms in administration and petitions filed by the town resulted in the statute N? 51 of 1907 giving municipal law. The description of events leading up to the transformation is followed by the analyses of statistical figures featuring a municipal borough: population, the economic life of the town, institutions of culture and social services. Besides the annals history of the work of organization we gave detailed account of the local government and official machinery of the town. We managed to find time for telling about the official function and organization of the municipal board, the council and its departments, the orphans’ court, the mayor and the police.
