in town Győr. There the delegates of local workers' councils assumed the leadership concerning councils of county, town and districts. Based on these facts, the author withdraws from the exaggerated centralization to the capital city related to the historiography of the events of 1956. The author analyses the efforts of the western press concentrating upon spectacular elements concerning the establishment of the general aspect created connected with the Hungarian revolution. On the other hand, he criticizes the endeavour of the historiograhy of the Kádár regime that it can prove the organization and counter-revolutionary character of the revolution even by means of events occurring in the provinces. Hardly have historians dealing with the Kádárrégime found suitable materials for the support of the restoration picture on the big landownergendarme of the countryside, a part from the the accusation of the rebel goverment of Transdanubia. Károly Péter: The activity of the Students' 1 Parliament and the Union of University and Academy Students of Hungary {MEFESZ} One of the participants of the revolution is the chronicler of local revolutionary events here. As a medical student of Pécs of the age, he was an active participant in the Students' Parliament of 22 October 1956, which was considered as the introduction of the revolution in Pécs. He wrote the memorandum of sophister medical students, which drafted radical claims, outpacing the faint suggestions of the leaders of the Democratic Alliance for the Youth {DISZ} of the age (the withdrawal of soviet troops, the removal of party and university leaders commiting unlawful acts, giving true information on uranium mining, etc.). Károly Péter became a member of the youth organization of the university, the MEFESZ, which was established at that meeting. Beyond the title, the author gives a detailed and profound description about the revolution of Pécs. He makes us see the most significant revolutionary events of Pécs with the eyes of the participant and the eyewitness. Furthermore, he does not conceal even his own role of the time, such as an important moment of the demonstration of the 25th of October, when Károly Péter, giving evidence of the presence of mind, saved inhabitants of the town from a massacre similar to that of Mosonmagyaróvár. He achieved that thanks to his smart confidence. In addition, the author introduces the leading bodies and persons of the revolution of Pécs as well as analyses the role, activities of the MEFESZ of Pécs. The author depicts the revolutionary events of Pécs of the time in the way that he compares them with national ones, by showing the effect of news and information, which were transmitted by the radio of Pécs and Budapest, upon the masses of people. The author does not hide his thoughts under a bushel while assessing both phenomena of the revolution as well as the role of the participating political powers.
