MÄNNER IN UNIFORM On this page, dear reader, you will find the photostatic copy of an original docu­ment that puts the lie on the Nazis in New York. As you may know it is claimed by our knights of the swas­tika that their storm troop­er are nothing but peaceful young men who serve as ushers at Nazi meetings. Here we have documentary proof that, these, peaceful young men, who supposedly donating their services vo­luntarily are in reality mem­bers of a military body. They receive military com­mands from their superiors. They are not asked, — they are told. Outside this count­ry there is no place on earth were such military forma­tions would be tolerated. By this time everybody knows that the New York Nazis are in the service of a foreign country. Now and here we have uncontestable evidence that they are under a mi­litary command. You have to bring along your membership card and your uniform. O. D. New york Office Management. Fittkau, Manager. March 28, 1939. We hardly have to com­ment on this document. From various other written matter, letters, envelopes and invitations we have determined that the man Fittkau who had signed the above order, is ERICH FITTKAU, living at 243 East 78th Street, New York City. It is this same Fitt­kau who in addition to “Or­ders”, also signs less strict­ly worded “invitation”. Here is a sample of one: LIEBER 0. D. KAMERAD. Am Sooabend, den 18. ds. Comrade Saturday, 18th of this month there will take palce a district-comrade­­ship-evening at Eblings- Casino, 156 Street-St. Ann’s Ave. in the Bronx. Every O. New York Office management Fittkau It should be remembered that in the course of the several inquiries into Nazi activities in America, the Fuehrer of the German Bund, Herr Fritz Kuhn and his cohorts have stoutly denied the military cha­racter of Nazi organizations, maintaining that the Bund members take no oath to their superiors. The “Or­der” published here proves that Herr Kuhn and his friends committed brazen perjury under oath. This means that the Bund members are undermilitary compulsion to do whatever they are ordered to do. And from the tone of the com­mand it may be safely as­sumed that they are bound by oath to comply. It is un­likely that Mr. Fittkau could otherwise simply order people “to appear in uni­form at 9.00 P.M. sharp...” It is difficult to under­stand how these known and admitted enemies of Ameri­can democracy are allowed to organize and maintain military formations on American soil. Democratic suicide is no ideal of a democracy. Apart from the many subversive activities of the Nazis that may fall within the elastic limits of the law, it is clear that the Bund considers itself a state within the state empowered to extract oaths of allegian­ce from its members. With that assume the prerogative of the Federal or State Go­vernments or their accredit­ed agents. That is too, much even from the Nazis, and the Government ought to put a stop to it. It seems futile to the Nazis with the kid glove's of democratic freedom, for not only do they brazenly abuse that freedom but they ri­­dicure the very lenience and consideration afford»'- them, They are no use for any­thing American. The Deut­sche Weckruf und Beobach- \ ter, the principal Nazi organ in this country, never misses an occasion to shower its abuse, on the heads of the President, the Mayor of the City of New York, Governor Lehman and other American public men. Conversely, and true to the Nazi spirit, they glorify and attempt to sell to the American public Hit-; ler, Mussolini and some les­ser fascist tyrants. It hardly seems possible that the, Deutsche Weckruf is an American publication. For its tone and context is a fac­simile of the propaganda sheets of Berlin and Nurem­berg. There is nothing in it but a continous and sham­less admiration of every­thing Nazi and villification of all that is American. Yet not only is it sold openly on the newstands but the Post Office even grants it Second Class mail privileges. We respectfully ask Mayor LaGuardia and the Federal Bureau of Investigation how long must the people of New York and the people of America put up with this in­fernal pack of brigands? Here we offer documentary proof that they are violating the State and Federal laws in organizing uniformed military units. -Why can’t these laws be enforced? Bodán Margitot nem is­merték New Yorkban. Ezután az est után azonban bizonyára megnő a hírneve. Azok, akik szerencsések voltak és megjelen­tek, bizonyára elviszik a hírét mindenfelé. Bodán Margit a ma­gyar rádión szerzett hirt, nevet és nincs az az arany érem, amit meg nem érdemelne. Kevés olyan magyar énekesnőre emlékszem, aki a magyar nótát őszintébben, sallangtalanabbul, egyé nibben és szebben énekelné, mint ő, aki­ben annyi egyéniség és közvet­lenség van, mint az amerikai Ruth Ettingben és annyi magyar kedvesség mint Blaha Lujzában volt valamikor. Szinpompás ma­gyar viseletekben jelent meg a színpadon, amik meghódították a magyar sziveket és a sok alföldi, palóc, erdélyi és dunántúli ma­gyar nótájával meghatotta és ma­gával ragadta a közönséget. Fóthy Fischer Ernő egyik érté­kes szerzeményét is nagy siker­rel énekelte. Ha itt marad köz­­,tünk a magyar művészet Ameri­kában nagy lendületet nyer vele. Ha elmegy vissza, sokáig fogunk emlékezni rá. Az előadás megkezdése előtt Dr. Takaró Géza, az Első Magy. Református Egyház esperese tar­tott igen érdekes és lelkesítő elő­adást a magyar népdalról és mü­­dalról. Valóságos történeti átte­kintést nyújtott és hangoztatta, hogy a magyar dal a nemzet leg­drágább kincse és Bodán Margit ennek a kincsnek az egyik hiva­tott őrzője. Nagy szeretettel tap­solta a közönség a népszerű lel­kész szárnyaló szavait. Az egytagú zenekart Kurucz János látta el és Bodán Margit, valamint Dr. Bársony, a kitűnő baritonista interpretáltak Kurucz János magyar dal-szerzeménye­ket. Kuruczot melegen és őszin­tén tapsolta a közönség minden megjelenése után. Ez a kitűnő magyar zeneszerző úgyszólván a mi fiuk és úgy becézte minden­ki, mint a hazajött kóborló gye­reket. Egy igen vacak zongorán csodával határos technikát mu­tatott be és csak a szemeit for­gatta, amikor egy-egy billentyű hamis hangot adott. így is nagy sikere volt, mert elég, ha leül egy faládikó elé, hogy az embe­rek szive melegséggel teljen meg. A Conferencier tisztét Rosko­­vicz Ignácz látta el igen ügye­sen. Akik nem voltak ott, azokat szivböl sajnálja (SZEBI) MAGYAR AMERIKA MŰVÉSZI SZENZÁCIÓJA. Az önképzö Egyletnek április 30-án, most vasárnap a Yorkville Casino színháztermében rende­zendő müvészestélye magyar Amerika színházi szenzációja lesz. Budapest, Bécs, Berlin és New York művészeinek találko­zása. Talán még soha ilyen mű­vészi együttes nem volt az itteni magyar színpadon. A műsorból kiemeljük Rátkai Mártont, ki az estély művészeti főrendezője, László Miklós, László Lola, Fran­cis Row, Gizella New, Betty Spears .és Alex Freundot. Világhírű művészek zsenialitá­sát egy csokorba kötve, ezekkel áll elő április 30-án a Yorkville ! Casinoban az önképzö Egylet. Költség és fáradtság nem lesz ki­méivé, hogy valami rendkívüli művészi eseménnyel lépjen az J önképző Egylet a magyarság elé. A felsorolt művészek mindegyike pedig készséggel vállalkozott ar­ra, hogy támogassa az önképzö I segélyzö akcióját,' mert az estély bevétele az egyesület segélyalap­ja javára lesz fordítva. Az ön­képzö emez emberbaráti célok szolgálatában mindent elkövet, hogy a nélkülözések közé jutott embertársaikon segítsen. Ezért a nemes munkájáért is -megérdemli a magyarság támogatását.
