Kyster,15 who acknowledged receipt of payment in a letter dated 23 September 1897.16 Radisics’s substantial purchase, although understandable given the art form’s reputation at the time and its increasing popularity, is nevertheless surprising in terms of the sheer quantity of sheets. Because of the lack of documentation, it is not clear whether Radisics bought the sheets seen at the exposition or whether, after viewing those and further sheets in Copenhagen, requested a wider selection from the artist. It is important to note that, with this purchase, Radisics became among the first to treat painted endpapers as museum objects. (Fig. 1) 1.
