Kyster,15 who acknowledged receipt of payment in a letter dated 23 September 1897.16 Radisics’s substantial purchase, al­though understandable given the art form’s reputation at the time and its increasing popularity, is nevertheless surprising in terms of the sheer quantity of sheets. Be­cause of the lack of documentation, it is not clear whether Radisics bought the sheets seen at the exposition or whether, after viewing those and further sheets in Copen­hagen, requested a wider selection from the artist. It is important to note that, with this purchase, Radisics became among the first to treat painted endpapers as museum ob­jects. (Fig. 1) 1.
