COLLECTION OF TEXTILES AND COSTUMES Ferenc Batári's bequest of carpets Art historian Ferenc Batári (1934-2005), an associate of the Museum of Applied Arts, bequeathed to the museum his textile col­lection consisting of over one hundred, mainly knotted and woven (fig. 5.1) carpets for the purpose of studying in the first place. The bequest ranging from 16-17th century Ottoman-Tu rkish carpet fragments through Turkish, Persian and Caucasian pieces made in homes and workshops to Turkmen, Tur­kic and Iranian nomadic storing sacks and saddle bags (fig. 5.2) covers a wide spectrum of Oriental carpet culture.
