Magdolna ZIMÁNYI (GYÖRGYI): The Hungarian Room Designed by Dénes Györgyi at the University of Pittsburgh

Works building in Honvéd street. His sculptures were shown in world fairs in Brussels (1935) and Paris (1937). 28 Current research findings claim that the date in the armorials - 1388 - is mistaken, as the University of Buda (correctly Óbuda) was founded by Sigismund of Luxemburg, holy Roman emperor in 1395. The author says that the furniture of the room completed in Hungary was first to be shipped to Barcelona (sic!) to a fair, and after the fair it was put on sea but it never arrived, the cases having got lost on the way. In this story Dr Sámuel Gömöry had to travel to Hungary and have the furnishing remade there for America. This adventurous and enigmatic story is based on a mistake: the panels were taken neither to Barcelona, nor to Paris, but straight to America, and the carvings were all made in America. 34 Kubinszky, Mihály: Györgyi Dénes.
