Acquisitions between 2006 and 2010

photo as the 'soul' of each piece with the portrait of a young woman (the artist's mother) shows dimly from under translucent "stone blocks". Ulexite chosen for the cut stones does not belong to the traditional gemstones of jewellers. Its singular use is a sign of the artist's invention as its "brittleness" mysteriously suggests the painful thought of transiency. Purchased with the help of the National Cultural Fund, 2010 Inv. no. 2010.18-2010.19 4.6 "Caliber" chess set Zsolt Péter Balogh, 2004 Stainless steel, aluminum - in wooden box Several chess sets were included in the successful Craft and Design exhibition of the Museum (17 November 2008 - 11 January 2009) including this one, donated to the museum by the artist. The elements of the set are stored in an accurate order in a finely finished wooden box with the designer's mark. The board is made of varnished stainless steel, while the aluminum tube figures are shaped by minimal cutting. The unusual materials, the use of semi-finished industrial products and design reflecting upon and adjusted to them result in a set that contrasts with the realm of traditional carved wooden chess sets. Every detail of the elements is carefully designed and executed with great mastery. The work is a product of the artist's attraction to minimalism. Gift by the artist, 2009 Inv. no. 2009.33.1-34 István Simonyi 127
