7. Antependium with scenes from the life of Christ: Christ in front of Pilate (Bern, Historisches Museum ) Thefirst antependium (fig. 7) According to the inventory, the antependium or frontal decorated with scenes form the life of Christ (Vienna or Prague, c. 1340) was a gift from Duke Albrecht II to the main altar of Königsfelden convent (which had been founded in memory of his father, Albrecht I of Habsburg, upon his death in 1308). The donation was probably made between 1352 and 1356: "Aber hant si [...] von unserem lieben brúder h er tzog Albrecht ein altertuch fur fronalter, mitt den sieben ziten unseres herren genaiet und geschatwet mit siden uff gold, und ein isten mitt deinen brustbilden dez selben werkes" ["But he hath received from our dear brother, the Duke Albert a frontal for the main altar, bearing seven scenes of the life of our Lord embroidered with silk and gold, and several smaller busts on the same work"]. 2 8.
