Emese PÁSZTOR - Márta TÓTH - Anikó PATAKI - Andrea VÁRFALVI: Turkish Cases from the Esterházy Treasury

III/4. The case during disassembly III/3. Signs of repair on the bottom ofthe case The crumbling parchment strip bordering the textile and leather layers had become hard and thick. Its once red colour had faded to brown. On those parts where the border was missing, the different layers had come apart from one another. The wooden insert at the bottom of the case was in good condition. The small indentations found on its surface must have come about through use, as a result of the knocking caused by arrow-heads. Grown grey and faded, the eight cords that had served to strengthen the arrowcase were incomplete, and in many places broken and frayed. III/5. Padding visible beneath damaged embroidery on the side pocket On the bottom of the arrow-case was a repair sewn in uneven, loose stitches using thick yarn (fig. III/3). 101
