The Worship of Shri Nathaji © Cotton, tempera Nathadvara (Rajasthan, India), late 18 th century 150 x 120 cm Inv. No.: 2001.71.1 Purchased from Mrs. R. Schütz This is a Nathadvara picture of Krishna. It depicts the god as Shri Nathaji in the shrine of his palace-like temple accompanied by his followers and servants. The squares on the border feature portraits of the sect's leaders. The cows shown in the lower part of the picture refer to Krishna as a cowherd-god. The large size of the picture, its composition, and the almost aniconic dark blue image of Krishna with its lack of physical features are all characteristic of the Nathadvara school of painting. I Shawl (odhni) embroidered with pieces of mirror © Silk thread and mirror on a silk ground Kutch (Gujarat, India), late 19 th century 185 x 140 cm Inv. No.: 2001.90.1 Purchased from Mrs. L. Faragó
