New Acquisitions

Álmos Jaschik, Two graphic works illustrating the New Testament, mixed media, mid- 1930s ture historic monuments in Hungary, and which were used in teaching. Unfortunately, many of Jaschik's manuscripts have not been published. They were drafted to a high all-round standard not just for his students, but also for a wider specialist readership. Examples are "A Stylistic History of Bookbinding" and "A History of Leatherwork". The manuscript of the book The Bookbinder's Craft is also in the bequest. From the teaching point of view the 1919 "Reform of the Drawing Syllabus" and the 1954 "Reform Plan for Hungarian Industrial Training and for Workers' Education" represent source-material. Numerous photographs, letters and picturepostcards in the bequest attest to the fact that from the human standpoint, too, links between Jaschik and his students were important. A collection of many hundreds of picture-postcards carefully arranged on a topographical basis conveys first and foremost the esteem in which his students held him. The importance of the bequest is increased by the fact that our collection is very deficient with regard to the Hungarian Art Deco period and the 1930s and 1940s generally. Purchased from Árpád Koos, Budapest. Hilda Horváth
