RENNER Zsuzsanna: R. M. Soelaeman Pringgodigdo, a műgyűjtő diplomata emlékére
the Upper, the Middle and the Nether World among them. The asmat wood carvings in the collection are from Irian Jaya, mostly from the beginning of the 20th century; they are ritual objects of the ancestor cult of the asmats. With the sudden death of R. M. Soelaeman Pringgodigdo, the future of the collection has come into question. We can only hope that the exhibition held in the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts in 1993 will be only the first of many occasions on which this rich and valuable collection will be on show to the public. We hope and trust that the collector's widow receives all necessary support to keep the collection together and to exhibit it on a permanent basis in Indonesia for the benefit of the public and of research, as well as to help preserve the memory of the collector himself.
