plary diligence and a deepening love for the objects. Her first publications concerned Hungarian and European decorative arts, but she published an article about an Indian textile of the Hopp Museum already in 1966. This one was followed by articles on Indian objects, mainly textiles and sculptures, a Ph. D. thesis on the Indus Civilization and, with the deepening of her knowledge, by works of synthetising character. Field-work played an important role for her: in 1970 she travelled to Mongolia to study the Lamaist Art of Mongolia and Tibet. The 1973 tour in India gave the final impetus for writing her most important work, the monograph „Greek Gods in India — Gandharan Art" (Publishing House of the Academy, Budapest, 1977) that gives an accurate, summarizing survey of this early period of Indian Buddhist Art. Beside her numerous publications — including the introduction to Károly Gink's album „Millenia of Indian Art" (Corvina Publishing House, Budapest, 1980) — the exhibitions she organized — Lamaist world of beliefs, Museum of Decorative Arts, 1980; Indian and Javanese Art, Hopp Museum, 1982 — show the of her career as a museologist. Her last work, the exhibition of Indian and South East Indian Art is treasuring her memory today. We regret it sincerely that time and illness have not permitted her to complete her grandiose plan, the summary of the world of symbols in Indian sculpture. (Pál Miklós)
