Rippl-Rónai also designed se­veral glass windows (one for the Museum of Applied Arts, one for the popular Japanese Café), the outstanding executed pieces are the glass windows of the Ernst Museum and the Japanese Café. Hungarian Art Nouveau glass on the one hand followed the European example — trying to create the type of art glass — and on the other hand — mainly in the case of functional pieces — it carried on the tradition of forms and motifs of histo­rism, conserving the academic, sometimes nationalistic conception of glass designing. 115
