Concerning Gallé's activity, that problem appears first only theoretically (his early works being individual pieces or studio glasses, made in a small number), but later his artistic character come into contradiction with his own social efforts. After the finishing of his first studio works, since 1884, he established studios for designing and decorating purposes beside his own workshop, where artists and workers worked under his artistic direction and controll. In hat studios the wooden forms for glassblowers and water-colour designs, determining the ornamental decoration were made, sometimes with orders, denoting the desired execution. In his water-colour or graphic designs Gallé gives not only the desired form, decoration and signature, but determines the colour shades, as well, which have certain names, given by him. Gallé developed, during the 1890-ies the „bleu céleste", „bleu troublé", „cristal améthyste à couche neigeuse" shades of colours. Following Gallé's example, Tiffany also develops his own colour scale, with characteristic names: „Samian Red",
