The date of this small Safavid settlement at Ghubayra appeared to be of the late 17th or early 18th century. The small base fragment, DK.23 (fig. 16), depicts a flying or leaping animal, probably a fox. It is painted in a rather light blue, with darker tones here and there. The paste of this vessel is soft, not unlike those known from Kirman. Accordcollected several such fragments from the slopes of the Citadel, the Qal'a-e Dukhtar ("Maiden's castle") in Kirman. 8 Further evidence came to light in the recent excavations at the Islamic site of Ghubayra, ingly, we may suggest, that this small base, just as the previous plate fragment, also comes from Kirman.
