IVÁNFY-BAL0GH, Sára - JAKABFFY, Imre: Géza R. Maróti

Acknowledged, praised, getting high sums for his work in the States, Maróti came neverless over and over again home, although he had by this time to suffer much slight in his country. The artist coming into conflict with himself worked off and on in his cherished house at Zebegény, was designing works never becoming realized. He got ill in November 1940 and after long suffering died the 6th May 1941. His Budapest sepulchral monument is one of his ancient works of art, it had been presented on the Monza exhibition 1923, by the name of „Harmony" a relief in Carrara marble, otherwise known as „Musicof the Spheres". A female figure seems to ascend on mighty wings looking down at a tiny group of people. It may be read on : He liked the beauty — seeked the good ; struggled much — worked hard; after great successes — bitter desappointments — reposes peacefully. During the last period spent at home the only acknowledgement he got was the Imre Steindl medal. The Steindl Guild of Hungarian Architects on a remembrance festival the 6th November 1937 honoured with the Imre Steindl medal : „Prof. Géza Maróti sculptor, architect, the illustrious master oi the Hungarian applied art, for his worldwide recognized artistic successes and merits in the service of the Hungarian art and culture". 17.
