EARLY 20TH CENTURY The silks exhibited come, with the exception of a late 19th century tsuzure-ori (tapestry) representing a Bugaku dancer, from the material of the 1873 Vienna World Fair and belong into three groups: heavy silks of Chinese pattern or inspiration, somewhat too gorgeous in colour or with an overdose of golden threads ; silks closer to Japanese taste and decoration of high quality; and those with some western influence (uphols­tery). This may be attributed to French influence brought back to Japan by Kyoto weavers sent for training to France after the 1808 exhibition, as silk weaving was of ] 0.. CLOISSONNÉ ENAMEL VASE.
