EARLY 20TH CENTURY The silks exhibited come, with the exception of a late 19th century tsuzure-ori (tapestry) representing a Bugaku dancer, from the material of the 1873 Vienna World Fair and belong into three groups: heavy silks of Chinese pattern or inspiration, somewhat too gorgeous in colour or with an overdose of golden threads ; silks closer to Japanese taste and decoration of high quality; and those with some western influence (upholstery). This may be attributed to French influence brought back to Japan by Kyoto weavers sent for training to France after the 1808 exhibition, as silk weaving was of ] 0.. CLOISSONNÉ ENAMEL VASE.
