I!!. Gama sennin. Wood. 4,3 X 3 cm. (Fig. 16) A sennin leaning one elbow on the back of a huge toad, covered with leaves. The warts on the body of the toad are em­phasized by small pockmarks. The holes are dark, while the protruding parts are light and shiny. A refined, harmonious work. Signature: Shuzan, on the bottom. Yasusada Shuzan belonged to a small Echigo school, that of Katada Shugetsu. They carved mainly turtles, snakes and toads. The best master in the school was Shuzan, who probably later moved to Tokyo. 81 Oni with a scroll representing Shoki. Wood. Height: 5,9 cm. (Fig. 17) Signature on the bottom: Hidekazu.
