Imre Jakabffy (szerk.): Ars Decorativa 1. (Budapest, 1973)
KOÓS, Judith: Walter Crane and Hungary
6. W. CRANE: ILLUSTRATION expressively gesticulating men are looking towards the sky on their bended knees. One of them holds a hand before his eyes while the mien of the central figure depicted in profile shows more decorativity. Sheep are browsing in the grass around the group and ruins lie in the background. The shepherds look at the heavenly miracle, and from the sky the choir of angels looks back at them. The angels hovering with spread wings and stretched arms are shown in profile and set against a semicircular, starry firmament. The detailed, epic manner of representation is peculiar to Crane's illustrative graphic art. In the faces of the angels the types of women specific to the age can be recognized. At the bottom left: Crane's mark figures. On the back of the sheet the following contemporary inscription reads: "No. 273. Iparmiiveszeti Muzeum" (Museum of Applied Arts) "120 korona" (120 crowns). 1 ' 161 7. W. CRANE- ILLUSTRATION
