cables were being laid down in a ditch on the Western side of the railway bed, there were some graves disturbed. The rescue excavation - led by István Horváth - opened up thirteen llth century grave holes, but only in two of them were found undisturbed skeletal finds (Horváth 1977). Consequently we must form our opinion about the results of the investigations very carefully. The rescued anthropological material has been placed in the Anthropological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum under Inventory Numbers 10.588.-10. 666. MATERIAL AND METHOD Out of the material of the mentioned 308 graves, the bones of 79 individuals were suitable for study. 19 of them are those of children and juvenile ones. Of the 53 grown-ups, 25 were suitable for detailed morphological and morphometrical analysis. However, taxonomical analysis was only possible on 6 male and 6 female crania. It characteristic of the bad preservation of the material of the above 25 individuals it was only 3 males* and 2 females' long bones that measures could be taken, which is necessary for stature calculation. Because of their being fragmentary and incomplete, the crania of 28 individuals could not be measured. The remaining 5 individuals' anthropological is either indeterminable or mixed. The distribution of the population by age, sex and preservation is contained in Table 1. In establishing the age at the time of deadth, we took into consideration, in case of grown-ups, the ossification os sutures on the endocranial surface of the cranium and the Vallois' grades of the suture ossification of the ectocranial surface as well as the degree of abrasio (after Körber). We determined age on the skeleton by the ossification of the epiphyses and by the changes on the surface of os pubis facies symphyseos (Farkas 1972). In case of
