Anthrop. Hung. X. 1971. A Short Anthropological Analysis of the Cemetery at Csorna—Hosszúdomb By Olga L. BOITYÁN Anthropological Department Hungarian Natural Hißtory Museum, Budapest In the course of the last half century, valuable osteological series within the diverse regions of the Avar Khaganate, having functioned in the Carpathian Basin, were excavated also in the Transdanubia. The elaboration of the materials deriving from the various localities became systematic especially in the past decade. Suffice it to mention the papers prepared on the paleoanthropological finds originating from Bágyog (Dezső, 1968), Csákberény (Tóth, 1962a), Előszállás (Wenger, 1966), Kékesd (Wenger, 1968), Környe (Tóth, 1967a, in print), and Szebény (Tóth, 1961a). It should also be noted that attempts have been made in this decade for the comprehensive ethnogenetic evaluation of the Transdanubian groups of the Avar Period populations , by new methodological approaches. (Tóth, 1962b,c, 1963a, 1966, 1967b, 1968, 1970). Of the localities mentioned, two (Bágyog, Csákberény) lie in the northern part of the Transdanubia, the same as the anthropological material treated in the present study, and which may, on the basis of our analysis, contribute essentially to the investigations of the last decade listed above. During gravel-quarrying , graves had been discovered in the village Csorna-Hosszudomb, of the Northern Transdanubia, in 1963. Archeologist D. Parage excavated 18 graves still in the same year, P. Tomka 13 new oneB in 1966, but only 22 skeletons proved to be suitable to conserve for study. Unfortunately, about
