Annak ellenére azonban, hogy életünknek gyakorlatilag egyharmadát alvással töltjük, csak a második világháborút követé években lendült fel igazán az alvás agyi idegrendszeri alapjainak a kutatása. E vizsgálatok derítették ki, hogy alvás közben a szervezet egésze pihen ugyan, de maga az agy - annak ellenére, hogy öntudatlan állapotban vagyunk - alvás közben is nagyon élénken működik. Out of these about 10 and a half million live in Hungary, approximately 2 and a half million in Romania, 500.000 in Yugoslavia, 400.000 in Czechoslovakia, 150.000 in the Soviet Union, 11.000 in Austria, 700.0000 in the U.S.A., about 60.000 in Canada and 50.000 in Australia. Sok adat szól amellett, hogy a szemteke-rezgés alatti szakaszokban - amikor egyébként az EEG is erőteljes agytevékenységre utal - rendszeresen álmodik az ember. Vannak alváskutatással foglalkozó székémberek^ akik azt tartják, hogy a nappal gyűjtött érzékszervi élmények, amelyek csak "röviden" vésődtek emlékezetünkbe, az éjszakai álmodas alatt "íródnak át" a tartós emlékezetünkbe. Természetesen csak igen kis töredék jut át a "tartós emlékezetbe". DóntŐ többségük örökre elfelejtődik. Régebben megdönthetetlen aranyszabálynak tartották, hogy a felnőtt egészséges embernek nyolc óra alvásra feltétlenül szüksége van. A közelmúltban angol kutatók ezt megcáfolták. Kiderült ugyanis, hogy mig szép számmal akadt olyan felnőtt, aki 5-6 óra alvás után is pihenten, frissen ébred, van olyan is, aki 10 órai alvás után is fáradt. Több tízezer ember alvásidejének gondos átvizsgálása után az derült ki, hogy a jó közérzethez, a pihentséghez általában 7 óra alvás elegendő. Sót az 5-6 óra alvás ut£n pihenten ébredők általában fizikailag es szellemileg aktívabbak, jobb kedélyüek mint azok, akiknek napi 8 vagy 10 órai alvásra is szükségük van. Igazolódott az is, hogy egy-egy átvirrasztott éjszaka utá^i napon minden különös erőfeszítés nélkül lehet értelmes szellemi munkát végezni. Viszont, aki már két éjszakát tölt alvás nélkül, annak testi és szellemi teljesítőképessége nagymértékben csökken. folytatjuk Swiss aid for Yugoslavian refugees in Hungary The Swiss Government recently sent 400.000 SFR to the UN High Commission for Refugees which will go towards providing food and shelter for Yugoslavian refugees in Hungary. The UN High Commission for Refugees has promised $3.1 million in assistance to Hungary to cover the expense of providing help for refugees from Yugoslavia. The Swiss contribution is the first part of this aid package. The 800 million forints allocated from the state budget this year for refugees is likely to run out in a short time and the Refugee Office will thus have to take out an advance from its budget for next year, which is projected to be one billion forints. The Hungarian Refugee Office is presently supporting some 35.000 Yugoslavian refugees of whom 5,000 are in refugee camps, while 30.0000 have found accomodation with families. They are making their movies in Hungary. Fed up with the strains and costs of filming in Los Angeles or on location in Paris and Moscow, a new breed of cinematic pioneer has found a low-cost alternative in a quirky country at the heart of Eastern Europe. The film "Meeting Venus" features Glenn Close as a Swedish diva preparing for an opera performance in Paris is one example. The movie's grandiose buildings and intricate interiors look Parisian, but most of the scenes were shot in Budapest. Robert Duvall, who made the smell of napalm famous in "Apocalypse Now" plays - the role of Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin in an upcoming Home Box Office movie filmed partly in Hungary. "It is like a mini-Hollywood"- said Karen Davis, an HBO producer based in Budapest. "The settings are incredible, the costs are good, the crews are efficient and you do not have to deal with union hassles." Recent American movies made on location in Hungary include "Music Box", with Jessica Lange, "The Josephine Baker Story" by HBO, "Hudson Hawk" with Bruce Willis and "Red Heat" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. A Hungarian American investor is trying to put together a deal for building a huge movie production center to guarantee that Hungary will become a hub for filmmaking in Europe. The workers need jobs and the cities need cash. Budapest officials are not fussy about renting out their idyllic opera house or closing off busy streets for filming.
