Our place in the world

There have been many and various attempts to formulate this. When problems are rising to the surface, as nowadays, the attempts intensify.

Where is our place in the world? What does being Hungarian mean and what is their role in the world? Native land and humanity. What will this country be like? Where shall we go?

Hungary's intellectuals attempt to formulate the questions and occasionally, the answers. One of the leading figures in Hungarian intellectual life, Dezső Keresz- tury, once published a volume of essays on the topic. Many years ago, in 1946, but its conclusions and general ideas are still topical. Perhaps even more so than then. Here we quote some of his thoughts.

"During their history, the Hungarians were frequently compelled to face these questions, never however, with such pain and strife, never wrestling with such energy, than during the past hundred and fifty years. For every serious thinker and every important politician the issue of Hungarian existence or non-existence was the starting point and final explanation of their work; tradition and progress, every movement of social, economic, political and intellectual reforms received their typical domestic hue through the spirit of this issue. The question emerged time after time: frequently a solution was arrived at in the inevitable process of history without being finally clarified.

It is understandable that today, during an era of one of the deepest transformations in Hungarian life, indeed of historic significance and revolutionary hardness, the question again faces us: where is our place in the world, is there a role which we have to fulfill, is there a call which lends sense, weight, and significance to our separate national existence?

Where is the place of Hungarian culture in the world? Naturally, the problem is too weighty and complex, deep and broadranging to be sufficiently illuminated in the space available..."

The answer or answers are again being sought by many. For the present - for the future. Studying such a country, such a society on the spot can provide valuable experience.

Hajlamos nőknek tekintik a sovány, kistermetű, fehér és dohányzó nőket es akiknek anyjuk ebben a betegségben szenvedett.

A kálciumpirulák (vagy kapszulák) rendszerint biztonságosak, ha az utasítást követően szedik, de nem nagyon hatásosak idősebb nőknél két oknál fogva, mondja az NRC egyik tagja, a San Francisco-i egyetem fó gerontologusa, Dr. Claude D. Arnaud.

Az egyik ok, hogy a kalciumra leginkább a tizenéves es a huszonéves korokban van szükség, amikor a csontrendszer még fejlődésben van. Nem sokat lehet tenni idősebb korban a csontmassza növelésére. A másik ok, szerinte, hogy az idősebb nők és férfiak szervezete sem a diétából, sem pirulákból nem szivja fel eléggé a kalciumot.

Az NRC azt ajánlja, hogy idősebb nők, akik esztrogénpotlékot szednek, egyék a napi szükséges mennyiségű kalciumot (800 millirgammot). Egy pohár lefölözött tej kb. 300 milligrammot tartalmaz.

A bizottság azt ajánlja az esztrogént nem szedő nőknek, akik oszteoporozisra hajlamosak, hogy napi 1200 milligramm kalciumot fogyasszanak lehetőleg ételben és nem pirulákban.
