The factory chimney heralds her victory and the train clacking on ringing rails. For she is peace, progress, justice, which conquers the lightning. In great cities and endless fields Her song resounds and will resound eternally until all idols fall down to dust here. / praise her only, the mother of life, Whose sister is beauty and freedom I and whose world is just now dawning. Henry Wilton: A PROPHESY ON ISRAEL n. Their bite was plenty bad, their bark was much worse. The Israeli leaders engaged persistently on what could only be seen as plain and simple bullying of the Arabs. If the Arabs dare attempt undoing their previous defeats, Israel will occupy Cairo, and Damascus, and would go even further, they threatened. Did the Israeli leaders really believe such abasing, such humiliation of a hundred million people will induce them to give in to a little nation of 3 million? Were they not aware that such humiliating declarations can only cause them to become more resolute? How. sad that such was Israel's leadership in that critical period, that such it is today. To believe that Israel will forever have such capacity, such superiority, was simply asinine. And yet, all the evidence indicates that was precisely what the Israeli leaders believed. Perhaps the reason for this belief was some form of assurance that the United States will maintain such Israeli superiority indefinitely. But then what is there in history that would justify putting credence in such assurance? Even if it were physically possible to assure the invincibility of a small nation against a hostile people of over a hundred million, who could believe that the United States will be willing to indefinitely pay the price of such undertaking; especially if it is borne in mind that that price would have to escalate, always, in direct proportion with the growth of input into the challenge. The credibility of such an assurance should be crystal clear in 1974; but also, the question in 1974 is: Is not the realization of that incredibility in 1974, too late? In less than absolute terms I can say, that to some degree, to whatever degree, it will be found that it is too late. I would like to talk about another aspect of what seems to so many of us the terrible folly of the Jewish leadership. But before I go into that, I would first like to explain that the reason for my using the phrase "Jewish leadership", rather than "Israeli leadership", is because I do not think that Israeli leadership consists entirely, or perhaps not even primarily, of those who hold cabinet posts in the Israeli government. I think that much influence is exerted on Israeli decision making by groups who live outside of Israel who do not have posts in the Israeli government. Where did the Jewish leadership's demonstrated sense of superiority, the arrogant, belittling, insulting behavior lead? Where did their internal policies lead? How does today's Israel's socio- economic structure compare with the early idealistic, humane, egalitarian brotherly philosophy that was then, in the beginning, projected as the basis for the Jewish State, to which the early Jewish Pioneers dedicated themselves? This is the first time that such a grand- scale international tourist trade event will be staged in a socialist country. Since ASTA's membership includes many travel agencies from 129 countries, as well as airlines, hotel chains and other tourist facilities, it is expected that such experts from almost all over the world will gather at this meeting. The organizers reckon with between 9,000-10,000 guests. The number of rooms booked so far for participants accounts for some 85 percent of the capital's total available hotel accommodation. The visitors will be flown to Budapest by MALÉV and PanAm airliners or come here by the de luxe riverboat Mozart from Vienna. Domestic programmes will be effected by 200 coaches of IBUSZ and Volánbusz. The Congress itself will be held at the Budapest Fair Center, where an exhibition occupying 10,000 square metres' floor-space will be concomitantly staged by Hungarian and foreign travel agencies. NEW HUNGARIAN TRANSPORT VEHICLE Preparations have started for the regular production of a new Hungarian vehicle called ROKAR, under the management of ROBOPLAN, the Robotics and Electronics Limited Partnership. After two years' development work, the first three units of this small size vehicle, mainly used for goods transport, have been completed. They are now undergoing road tests in Budapest's streets. The vehicle, having one front and two rear wheels, carries a 330 kg payload. It is driven by a 350 cm3 petrol engine and was built exclusively of Hungarian * and Comecon-produced components. It consumes appr. 3 litres of fuel per 100 km and develops a maximum speed of 70 km/hour. Preliminary market research has shown that the small-size vehicle is likely to meet a keen demand, mainly in farming establishments, factory grounds and in commerce. Regular production will start this year in "Rekard", the Agricultural and Mechatronical Machine Factory of Gyor, West Hungary. (Translated by Katalin Kiss) HOTEL ESZTERGOM The Danubius Hotel and Spa Company opened its new hotel in March in Esztergom, the seat of the first Hungarian kings, on the right-hand bank of the Danube in western Hungary. Hotel Esztergom has been erected at the city's most beautiful spot, on Primas Island, at the confluence of the Little and Big Danube. The construction had been financed mostly by the local council and subsequently sold to Danubius Company which pledged to enlarge the hotel in due course. Also, the tapping on the island of the waters of a natural springs, having medicinal qualities (for the moment plugged), is envisaged at a later date. Having 34 double-rooms and to suites, the hotel has a fitness center and a separate landing stage on the Danube for kayaks, canoes and a motor yacht. HEREND COFFEE SETS FOR JAPAN The Herend Porcelain Factory booked orders from Japan for special coffee sets. The 12 cups and matching saucers are adorned with pictures based on those in the "Flemish Calendar". The themes depict agricultural work characteristic of the given month, as well as the zodiac sign for the month. The entire decoration work of the set is hand-made. The customer, the Japanese firm Hoshi Shoi, issued a special catalogue of this special set which shows not only the 12 pictures but also presents the history of Herend Porcelain Factory. A stamp issued by the Hungarian Post Office won second prize at the competition for the world's most beautiful stamps in Vienna. The stamp, marking the 14th cancer congress held in Budapest, was designed by graphic artist József Rác. The international competition of stamps has been held every year since 1981. On this occasion the international jury judged stamps issued by post offices of 97 countries. The greatest success of Hungarian stamp issuing of the past years was due to the good selection of the theme and the modern graphic art solution. The prize was presented May 14 in Salzburg.
