SZEREZZEN EGY UJ ELŐFIZETŐT In spite of worsening international con­ditions, the development of the Hungarian economy essentiallv corresponded to the objectives set in the national economic plan. The basic aim has been fulfilled: the foreign-economy equilibrium of the country has improved - as a result of pres­sure from external conditions and of inter­nal efforts. The trade settled in conver­tible currencies closed with an export sur­plus. The real income as well as the con­sumption of the population slightly excee­ded the previous years' level in accordance with the estimates. In 1982. the national income rose by 1.5 to 2 %, slightly exceeding the planned rate. In terms of figures, it surpassed 670 billion forints. The rise of the gross indust­rial output, as well as the brake put on the nationwide building and assembly ope­rations matched - by and large- the planned rate. The gross output in agriculture rose faster than the planned growth. Parallel with the national income's growth, there was a minor 0.5 % decrease in the manpo­wer employed in the productive sectors. Accordingly productivity rose faster than production. The increase in production went towards increasing exports. The do­mestic utilization dropped by about 2 % -as predicted by the estimates - and its total proved less than that of the national income, in contrast with the earlier years. Among the major items of domestic utili­zation, the populations' consumption ex­ceeded the 1981. level by some one percent. HUNGARIAN FOOD INDUSTRY - 1982-83. Lsst year the value of Hungarian food production was 217 billion forints, three percent more than in 1981. Over a hund­red new varieties of mainly canned food, dairy, meat and poultry products came on the market. The level of domestic supply was satisfactory, and exports increased seven percent in value and 10 percent in quantity. Investments amounted to 8 bil­lion forints. New plants included milk and meat factories, a factory producing deep- frozen vegetables as well as a flour pro­ducts factory. The food ' industry accounts for nearly one-fifth of the overall production value of Hungarian industry. Thanks to this branch, the populations' food supply is outstanding­ly good even by international standards. About 30 % of the food output is exported and more than three-fourths of the income deriving from this source is available in convertible currencies. Last year a 6000 ton meatpacking plant began production within the Kaposvár Meat- works. Two milk-factories (daily capacity 200.000 and 100.000 litres) at Debrecen and Pásztó started operating. The new Mirelit factory at Baja produces an annual 10.000 tons of deep-frozen vegetables for export. Two bread-factories, one in Budapest, one in Orosháza, a flour-products factory in Székesfehérvár, and a grain-mi­xing plant in Kecskemét were finished last year. HUNGARIAN TRUCKS IN SYRIA In December 1981. an agreement was signed between Mogürt Hungarian Trading Co. for Motor Vehicles and the Syrian Gene­ral Foreign Trade Organisation for Machi­nery and Equipment under which the Hun­garian contracting party is to supply 495 Rába heavy-duty tipper trucks, 140 Csepel medium-class dump and normal lorries, and 100 type IK-260 city busses to the Syrian buyer at a total value of 35 million US dollars. HUNGARIAN-CANADIAN JOINT PRODUCTION OF GRINDING TOOL ACCESSORIES This year, the Granit-Tool and Stoneware Factory of Budapest will turn out some 120.000 US dollars' worth of grinding-tool accessories under a cooperation agreement concluded with the Canadian firm Dualflex. According to the contract signed in Februa­ry, the Hungarian enterprise was assigned to produce the accessories for the ginding tools. 'The basic materials are supplied by the Canadian firm as well as the techno­logy - which at the moment is unique in the world. Let us learn Hungarian I'll have some ham and egtjs.
