BERETZ 7520 Woodmar Avenue Hammond, Ind. 46323 Tel.: 219-844-8632 SYNODICAL COUNCIL MEETS Our Synodical Council met on March 2-3, 1972 in Saddle Brook, and Passaic, N.J. Members present were: Rt. Rev. Arpad Beretz, Bishop, Rev. Aaron Elek, Deputy Bishop, Rev. Joseph Marsalko, General Secretary and the Rev. Joseph Kecskemethy, Synod Treasurer. Mr. John Nemesnyik, Synod Presbyter was excused due to unforeseen circumstances. EDITOR VITÉZ REPORTS The Rev. Francis Vitéz, Editor of the Reformátusok Lapja, reported on the editorial and financial problems of the paper. He submitted a budget for 1972. After thorough examination, the budget was recommended for acceptance to the Synod annual meeting. Plans for the paper were discussed and will be presented at Synod. DENOMINATIONAL REPRESENTATIVES The Rev. Willard B. Soper of Manchester, New Hampshire will represent the Executive Council at our Synod meeting in Bridgeport. The Rev. Mr. Soper is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Executive Council. BISHOP BERETZ VISITS EAST On March 1, 1972, our bishop met with the pastors of the Eastern Classis in Passaic, N.J. at our local church. Many topics of current interest Official Communications iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiMiiiiiiiiM were discussed. The Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Kecskemethy were gracious hosts as always. On March 2-3 the bishop met with the Synodical Council. On March 5 he preached at both the English and Hungarian services at our South Norwalk, Connecticut church, the Rev. Dr. John Butosi, pastor. Following the services he traveled to New York City with Dr. Butosi for a meeting with the consistory of our New York congregation regarding their pulpit vacancy. From March 6-8, Bishop Beretz participated in an orientation program for new conference executives sponsored by the denomination. He met most of the heads of the various Instrumentalities and Agencies. It was an exhausting but rewarding experience. AMA COLLEGES-OVERSEAS MINISTRIES The Rev. D. D. Parragh, pastor of our West Side Chicago church and the Rev. Dr. A. A. Ludwig, pastor of our East Chicago church, attended a regional survey meeting in Hinsdale, Illinois regarding the work of our AMA Colleges and the Overseas Ministries. WOMAN CALLED AS PASTOR Mrs. Coralyn Medyesy, wife of the Rev. Laslo Medyesy, pastor of our Whiting, Indiana church, was called and elected pastor of our Gary, Indiana church on February 27, 1972. The election was conducted by Bishop Beretz. The vote was 68-4 in favor of election and was later made unanimous. We wish her well in her new post. TESTIMONIAL DINNER Synodical Council voted to honor four men and four women from each of our Classes at our annual meeting in Bridgeport. Each Classis will nominate one man and one woman whom they consider best qualified for recognition as long and valuable servants for the Glory of God in their own congregations and in the wider work of the church. DEPUTY BISHOP IN LORAIN The Rev. Aaron Elek, Deputy Bishop of our Synod, together with five of our pastors, represented our Synod and preached the sermon at the installation service of the Rev. Miklós Novak, pastor of our Lorain, Ohio congregation. We wish God’s blessing on his life and work. VACANCIES NEW YORK. N.Y. Ministerial support totaling $10,030 was voted for a new full-time pastor. Inquire at the Bishop’s office or the Administrator, Dr. John Butosi. MORGANTOWN, W.VA. Owing to his recent illness, Dr. László Borsay can no longer supply this congregation. We are happy to report that Dr. Borsay is well on the way to recovery after surgery. VOICE OF AMERICA Bishop Arpad L. Beretz broadcast an Easter Message to Eastern European listeners via the Voice of America Radio. This program reaches Hungarian-speaking people in most countries behind the Iron Curtain.
