2 REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA THE RIGHT REVEREND BISHOP ÁRPÁD L. BERETZ 7520 Woodmar Avenue Hammond, Ind. 46323 THE 1972 ANNUAL MEETING OF SYNOD will be held at our church in Bridgeport, Conn., the Rt. Rev. Stephen M. Bessemer-Boszormenyi, pastor, on April 24 - 26, 1972. Please note this date on your calendar. BISHOP BERETZ attended the Protestant Ball in New York City on November 12, 1971. He gave the permission for the opening of the ball and was introduced to the participants. During this time he had talks with the Rt. Rev. Dezső Abraham, bishop of the American Hungarian Reformed Church; Mr. László Eszenyi, controller of our American Hungarian Reformed Federation, and Mr. August Molnár, of the American Hungarian Studies Foundation. All talks were fruitful and were most cordial. THE REV. VICTOR G. ORTH, pastor of our Calvin Reformed Church, Chicago, Illinois, reports that the Annual Congregational Meeting voted to send $30.00 each month for one year for the support of Calvin Synod’s South American Mission. We hope this noble example is followed by others in support of our Synod Mission priorities. THE SYNODICAL COUNCIL met in New York City on November 12, 1971. All members were present. Official Communications 1. Council discussed in detail the proposed “Recommendation for Cooperation” by our Canadian brethren regarding the publishing of the Új Élet and the Reformátusok Lapja in one publication. A policy statement was adopted and will be discussed with our Canadian brethren at the proper time. 2. The Rev. Erno Zugor was granted transfer to the Southwest Ohio Association as of November 15, 1971. 3. The Rev. Tibor Petroczy of Montreal, Canada was granted Privilege of Call on November 12, 1971. He has been called as Interim Pastor by our Dayton church as of December 1, 1971. 4. The Rev. Dr. Arthur Ludwig was approved as Special Assistant to the Bishop on Refugee Resettlement. Dr. Ludwig reports that our first refugee under the new plan has arrived and has been resettled. 5. Our New York Congregation is still vacant. We hope a solution will be found soon for this old and important congregation in the Metropolis. 6. Council discussed in detail directives requested by the Rev. László Medyesy, Chairman of the Youth Committee. The Youth Committee has been asked to continue the restructuring of our Synodical Youth program. 7. The invitation of Dr. Tibor Bartha of Hungary to our bishop for an official visit was approved. Final plans are now being formulated. 8. An Historical Commission or Society was voted. It is hoped this Commission will begin to function shortly as our historical data is in danger of being scattered and eventually lost. Our brethren in Hungary are far along in their plans in a similar endeavor. 9. The Rev. Aaron Elek reported progress on a draft for a publication on the life and work of Calvin Synod. AN IDEA A good way to take inventory of church property is to go from room to room and dictate the data into a portable recorder. Be sure to note all serial numbers, models, date of purchase, etc. This is invaluable in the event of a burglary. PERSONAL ITEMS Our bishop was elected a Vice- President of the Polish-Hungarian World Federation at a recent meeting held in Chicago, Illinois. OUR SYMPATHY We extend our sincere condolences to the Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Kecske- methy of Passaic, N. J. on the occasion of the passing of his mother Mrs. Joseph (nee Elizabeth Keleman) 88 who died on December 6 in Passaic, N. J. Her funeral was held in Passaic on December 9 and buried in Bridgeport, Conn. Mountain Grove Cemetery. CONGRATULATIONS We wish to extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. and Mrs. László Harangi on the occasion of the marriage of their daughter Rozsa Maria Nadhazy-Harangi to Wilfried Hulse- mann on Dec. 25, 1971 in the Baldwin- Wallace College Chapel. Dr. Harangi officiated at the wedding ceremonies.
