Reformátusok Lapja, 1971 (71. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)

1971-12-01 / 12. szám

8 REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA ANNIVERSARY The Wallingford, Connecticut congregation honored its pastor, the Reverend Joseph Marsalko on November 21, 1971 on his Tenth Anniversary of serving that congregation. On behalf of the congregation, Nicholas Szegedi, Chief-elder, Mrs. Joseph Kruy, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Mrs. Nicholas Szegedi, Women’s Guild President, Mrs. Joseph Szeles, Ladies Aid President and Tony Distasio, Youth President greeted their pastor and gave him and his wife their generous gift. Reverend Marsalko also is the General Secretary of the Calvin Synod. * NCC REORGANIZATION TAKES A GIANT STEP The General Board of the National Council of Churches has approved a plan for reorganization which would create a strong central governing board with control over budget and policy. Delegations from each denomination are to include “an adequate representation” of its racial and ethnic constituency and a prescribed ratio of clergy, laity, men, women, youth, older persons, and people in ecumenical agencies. The plan was referred to the member denominations for reactions which will be considered by the board next June. Final action is not expected before December, 1972. The General Board also endorsed a statement calling for a comprehensive national health care program as “one of the fundamental rights of every human being ...”; pressed for essential reforms of the U.S. welfare system ; asked for massive aid for Pakistani refugees, immediate suspension of all military and economic aid to Pakistan and investigation of the Kent State killings. K.Y.P. * IN CASE YOU MIGHT HAVE WONDERED where to find those 17 Bible stories refered to in “Try This For Size” in last month’s issue, this is what I found: Luke 10; Luke 8; Matthew 25; II Samuel 18; I Kings 10; I Kings 17; II Kings 9; Judges 16; Genesis 7; Acts I; I Kings 19; Matthew 22; II Kings 9; Matthew 18; Matthew 14; Matthew 22 and Luke 24. HOW MUCH WILL YOU GIVE FOR YOUR CHURCH'S WORK IN 1972? Over 700 of your fellow members chosen as delegates to the General Synod of the United Church of Christ suggested that 5% or more of annual income would be a sensible standard. WHAT DO YOU THINK? P.S. As you think about it, please remember that due to inflation, here and overseas, work that cost $500 during the past year will cost about $550 in 1972. So you will be voting for your church to cut back its work by about 10% if you give the same amount next year as this year. OUR 1972 SYNOD MEETING at the decision of the Conference Council will be held in Bridgeport, Conn. LOCAL CHURCH REPORTS will be due in the synod office before JANUARY 20, 1972. Forms will soon be mailed to our pastors. Please, understand that these reports are important from the standpoint of planning and evaluation. Even if the annual meeting of the congregation is not held before that date, pastors should know the necessary data in the first half of January. SYNOD APPEALS FOR 1971: 1. Heart-Lung Machines. 2. South American Mission (Montevideo, Argentina, Brazil, diaspora visitation). 3. Aid to churches in Hungary and Transylvania (flood relief, etc.). 4. Kenya Mission. 5. Another year is dawning; Dear Master, let it be On earth or else in heaven, Another year for Thee! —Frances Ridley Havergal
