AMERICAN CHURCH ASKS FOR TRANSFER The Pleasant Valley UCC (Dayton, Ohio) requested transfer from the Southwest Ohio Association to our Calvin Synod on Jan. 6, 1971 with the intention of voting to merge with our Hungarian E. & R. Church of Dayton, Ohio, and thus forming one of the most promising congregations of the synod. We had cases when a Hun­garian Ref. Church left the geographi­cal conference for our synod (Buffalo) ; we also see a Hungarian Ref. church asking transfer from another denomi­nation to our fellowship (Manville) ; but, to our knowledge, this is the first occasion when a non-Hungarian Ref. church joins us for good. Evidently we have more than just “ethnic solidarity”; we offer more than just “equally ad­equate” services in English; ours is a Christian style of life which may draw and satisfy people of any background. VACANT CHURCHES We are in the process of placing the Rev. Paul Kovács in the Johnstown- Windber-Vintondale charge. Thus the only vacant pulpit in our church is Kalamazoo, Mich. Among the Hun­garian Presbyterian churches Niles, Ohio and Wharton, N.J. are searching for pastors. In Wharton, N.J. contact Mr. Joseph Zaycer, 69 Davis Avenue, Dover, N.J. 07801 DEADLINE EXTENDED The deadlinef or duty-free packages was extended by the Romanian au­thorities until April 30, 1971. The victims of the 1970 flood appreciate our help. THE BETHLEN ALMANAC was published for Christmas. It con­tains 388 pages: a must for all those who want to have up-to-date informa­tion on our churches around the world. THE HUN. REF. FEDERATION published a book containing the sig­nificant events of its 75 year history. It was written and compiled by Presi­dent Zoltán Beky. PERSONAL NOTES Rev. László M. Medgyesy (Whiting, Ind.) was awarded the degree of Master of Arts by the University of Chicago. Rev. Stephen T. Szilagyi (Cincinnati, Ohio) received a Bible from President Nixon in acknowledge­ment of his worship service in the White House. Dr. Stephen M. Bessemer (Bridge­port, Conn.) was surprised by a testi­monial dinner on Jan. 10, 1971: he served for 45 years as pastor in his present congregation. Mr. Tibor Lorincz (Philadelphia, Pa.) was granted “student in care” status in the synod. MINISTERS STUDY EXCHANGE TOURS were announced by the Council for Church and Ministry. GENERAL SYNOD MEETING of UCC will be held at Grand Rapids, Mich, beginning at 9 a.m. on June 25 and continuing through 10 p.m. on June 29, 1971. Mr. E. Behary (Cleveland, West). Mr. J. Nemesnyik (Passaic) and Dr. J. Butosi (So. Norwalk) will represent our Synod. THE SYNOD PRESIDENT visited Woodbridge, N.J. on Nov. 30, Manville, N.J. on Nov. 12, Cleveland on Dec. 8, Kalamazoo on Dec. 14, 1970. — He will attend tbe Mission Priority and Conference Ministers Meeting at Cleveland, Ohio on Feb. 3-5; the gathering of the World Alli­ance of Reformed Churches at Niagara Falls, Canada on Feb. 9-11; the Con­ference Council Meeting in New York City on Feb. 22, 23, 1971. THE SYNOD MEETING will be held in Buffalo N,Y. from April 26 to 28, 1971. Presently plans are formulated to have one session in Canada! Be sure that your church will be represented! PASTOR'S SALARY should be reviewed each year according to the recommendation of the General Synod. Many ministers, whose salaries are not reviewed annually, desperately need a cost of living raise (6% in 1970).
