REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA 15 4. Congregations are urged to sup­port the following Synod Appeal Pro­jects: (1) Ref. Lapja Emergency Fund; (2) Aid to Churches in Hungary; (3) Heart - Lung Machine; (4) South American Mission. Designated contri­butions to these appeals as well as to any other projects (Bethlen Home, radio, etc.) should be sent through Synod Treasury. 5. In order to meet the Emergency Fund for the Ref. Lapja it is recom­mended: (1) to have Ref. Lapja Sun­days asking for special donations; (2) to get more paid advertisements; (3) extra giving at church gatherings; (4) more congregational subscriptions; (5)classis presidents should stress the importance of the Lapja in classis meetings and in congregations. 6. The Calvin Synod is deeply con­cerned about the Hungarian Reformed Diaspora and authorizes the Synod President to participate in consulta­tions which aim to establish a realistic Hungarian Ref. ecumene. 7. Synod approves the actions of the Conference Council in regard to the election of the Bethlen Home super­intendent and pledge its continued effort for the service of God in our public life. 8. A congregation which will not provide a minimum yearly salary of $8,000.00 to its pastor, exclusive of manse, heat, light, telephone, pension, Social Security and hospitalization, cannot expect the pastor to devote full time service to the congregation. 9. Conference Council is requested to present a definition of a church member to local churches for adoption; also to prepare guidelines of financial bookkeeping in the local churches; also to prepare plans for organizing Hungarian Reformed congregations in Ligonier, Pa. and Washington, D.C. in true ecumenical spirit; also to prepare a curriculum to study Hungarian Dia­spora Work in the World. 10. Travel allowance for Synod and Council meetings was raised to 10 cents per mile. 11. A Testimonial Dinner was held in honor of Rt. Rev. Mathias Daroczy and Dr. Arthur R. Moor on April 28, 1970 . 12. Delegates to the General Synod Meeting are: Dr. J. Butosi, Mr. John Nemesnyik (Passaic, N. J.), Mr. Edward Behary (Cleveland, West Side), Alternates: Mr. A. Kovács and Mr. J. Revesz. 13. Appreciation was expresesd to the Bethlen Home for the fine dinner on April 27, and to the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America for $200.00 donation toward the Testi­monial Dinner. ($800.00 for advertise­ment in the Ref. Lapja was also re­ceived with thanks.) 14. Rev. J. Marsalko, treasurer re­ported: “The spirit of giving was good in 1969. With a few exceptions the local churches had sent 100% of their payment for Synod Administration and Travel Fund. Donation for OCWM was $8,648.33 and when we add to it the $8,134.06 given as designated gifts and synod appeals . . . then our total mission-oriented giving comes to $16,- 782.39. Substantial growth . . .” It would be easy to continue listing important events and decisions (ser­mon, meditations, presentations, etc.), but let us stop here with the words of Edward Napoleon: “The conference was run in a most efficient manner. Committee reports were well thought out and presented. The co-operation between ministers and laymen was most apparent and gratifying to see. Every elder should strive to attend at least one of these meetings.” INSTALLATIONS (1) Rev. László Medgyessy was in­stalled pastor of the Whiting, Ind. First Reformed Church on April 12, Rev. Arpad Beretz, our vice-president, officiating. (2) Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Zsíros was installed pastor of the Hungarian Re­formed Church in Flint, Michigan on April 19, 1970. Dr. L. Vatai preached in Hungarian, the Synod President preached in English and installed Dr. Zsiros in Hungarian. VACANCIES (1) Dayton, Ohio. Administrator: Rev. A. Elek, Cleveland, Ohio. (2) Gary, Ind. (5) Welland, Ontario. Call: Dr. L. Pandy-Szekeres, administrator, Delhi, Ont., Canada (Presbyterian) OUR YOUTH CAMP Our Youth Camp will be held at Camp Kanesatake, Spruce Creek, Pa„ August 16-22. Registration forms were already mailed out and the April issue of the Hi-Lite states: “This year’s camp promises to be the largest camp that has ever been in the history of the Synod Youth in modern times. Be­cause of this fact it will be very im­portant that you send your registra­tions in to Benny Borsay, 337 Dorsey, Morgantown, W. Va. The sooner, the better. The longer you wait to send in your registration the harder it will be to say for sure that there will be room for you at camp.” The theme will be: WALLS . . .WALLS . . . WALLS. DR KALMAN TOTH Dr. Kalman Toth, , pastor of our Hungarian Reformed Church in Lorain, Ohio had to postpone his operation. Keep him in your prayers! — Our “big” Imre Kovács, pastor of our church in Springdale, Pa. could not attend our synod meeting also on account of his illness. Pray for him! THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Board of Directors of the Hun­garian Reformed Federation of America, at the suggestion of our Conference Council, accepted, in part, the following resolution: “Whereas it was agreed that the By-Laws of the Bethlen Home can possibly be the subject of diverse legal interpretations . . . now, therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Directors does hereby recommend to the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home . . . to cause to be appointed a committee to study the operations of the Hun­garian Reformed Federation of Ameri­ca and the Bethlen Home and the applicable laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.” In accordance with this decision, a meeting is called for May 12, 1970 in Ligonier, Pa. Dr. Arthur Moor and Dr. J. Butosi will represent our Synod. THE PALM SUNDAY CONFERENCE The Palm Sunday Conference of our Central Classis was held in Pittsburgh, Pa. The theme, “Critical Analysis of our Churches” was presented by Mrs. László Berzeviczy and Mrs. Zoltán Kovács. — The Eastern Classis dis­cussed the theme of “Know Your Church” in Woodbridge, N. J. with the leadership of the classis pastors. Both conferences proved to be useful opportunities of learning. IF YOU GO TO MIAMI If you go to Miami, visit our church at 600 S.W. 25th Ave. On May 10, 1970 they joyfully burned their mort­gage papers. We certainly congratulate the congregation and their pastor, Rev. N. Varkonyi on this happy occasion!
