14 REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA 20th ANNUAL CONFERENCE of the YOUTH FELLOWSHIPS of the CALVIN SYNOD (Conference of the United Church of Christ) at CAMP KANESATAKE SPRUCE CREEK, PA. August 17 - August 23, 1969 CONFERENCE THEME: LOVE We arrived at this years theme after careful contemplation of the great scope and meaning of love in God’s relation to man, man’s relation to man, and man’s relation to God. We also felt that a theme with such magnitude needed a speaker equal to the task of relating this great theme of Christian life, and we feel that we have found him in the person of Rev. Leslie L. Borsay, pastor of the Whiting United Church of Christ in Indiana. • IMPORTANT Registration $30.00 This includes meals, lodging, and insurance. The age requirement is 14 and above. We feel the young person should be mature enough to participate in discussions and be able to grasp the ideas presented. The conference is therefore planned for the high school level. Since leadership training is part of our emphasis, each youth fellowship’s foremost consideration should be the delegation of its officers. A $5.00 deposit must accompany the registration blank and both must be sent in together by July 15, 1969. Send registration and deposit to: BEN BORSAY 337 Dorsey Avenue, Morgantown, W. Youth Conference NEWS IN BRIEF ZAMBIA TO ORDAIN PEOPLE IN SECULAR OCCUPATIONS? — The Manpower Commission of the United Church of Zambia has come up with a recommendation to create “a diaconate, which should be open equally to men and women of outstanding Christian character whose gift of ministry has been attested within their local situation; who would earn their living in a secular occupation, but — after a suitable course of training, either by correspondence or in special lay training sessions — be ordained to the ministry of the Word and Sacraments throughout the United Church of Zambia, but be licensed by the president to the work in a given presbytery or district church council”. A similar scheme is being tried out in India, where men in secular occupations are being ordained as ministers. A highly educated teaching minister gives oversight, travelling from church to church within the area. RPPS ★ Permission has been received from the Vatican for Roman Catholic women in the United States to serve as lectors, commentators and song leaders at the Mass under special circumstances. The ruling will apply chiefly to women in religious orders but may be extended to others when male lectors are not available. S. C. Clipsheet
