LIGONIER CONFERENCES have been announced: the Presbyters’ Association will have its annual gathering from 2 P.M. on August 31 to noon on September 1, 1969, while the meeting of the Ministerial Association is scheduled from 8 P.M. on September 1 to noon on September 3, 1969. Elders and ministers are urged to attend these gatherings. “It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness!” CALVIN SYNOD MINISTERS will have a special “denominational meeting” in connection with these meetings in Ligonier. The date is: Tuesday, September 2, 9 P.M. in a place to be announced in Ligonier. Of course, our “affiliated brethren” are also cordially invited. THE CONFERENCE COUNCIL of our Calvin Synod will meet on September 1, Monday at 2 P.M. in Ligonier, Pa. This is an official invitation without further notice. THE CHURCH AND MINISTRY Committee of the Synod will meet at 1:30 P.M. on Sept. 2, Tuesday in Ligonier, Pa. for the examination of a candidate. THE ANNUAL MEETING of the Bethlen Home Board of Directors is called for Wednesday and Thursday, September 3 and 4 in Ligonier, Pa. This meeting will elect the new superintendent of the Home. Churches which supported the Home with at least $750.00, and classes with at least $1,000.00 from March 1, 1968 to Feb. 28, 1969 are entitled to representation, according to the invitation. THE FALL RETREAT of our Synod is tentatively scheduled for October 20, 21 and 22. The dates will be finalized in Ligonier, Pa. on Labor Day week-end, but we wish to alert our pastors well in advance as this conference will deal with the critical analysis of our churches. Be sure to attend this gathering! SEMINAR FOR HUNGARIAN PASTORS is planned in Princeton Theological Seminary from Jan. 12 to 15, 1970 in connection with our Continued Education Program. Detailed schedule and invitation will be mailed later on, but this new venture deserves our utmost attention and sincere prayers!... BISHOP RASKY IN AMERICA According to our latest information the Rt. Rev. Sándor Rasky, bishop of the Cis-Tibiscian District in Hungary arrived in America on August 21 at the invitation of the Western Theological Seminary, Holland, Michigan. IN CLEVELAND, OHIO our First Church will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the dedication of their new church building on September 14, 1969. Invitations went out to all our churches, and together we send our warm congratulations... IN BETHLEHEM, FA. the installation of the Rev. Alexander Babos will take place on October 19, 1969. FUNERAL: Beatrice Varkonyi, the wife of the Rev. N. Varkonyi, the pastor of our Miami, Fla. church passed away on June 15, 1969. Sincere sympathy! CONGRATULATIONS to Prof, and Mrs. L. Calvin Aday on the birth of their little boy, Andrew Kereztury Aday. CONGRATULATIONS: the Rev. Arpad Beretz, vice-president of our Synod has been named General Secretary of the Polish-Hungarian World Federation. The Executive Council of the United Church of Christ placed his name among the six candidates of the denomination’s Nominating Committee, three to be elected by the Gen. Synod; unfortunately he was not among the three elected. INSTALLATION: the Rev. Ernest Zugor was installed pastor of the Johnstown-Vintondale- Windber charge on June 8, 1969. Rev. A. Elek delivered the Hungarian message, while the Synod President preached in English and conducted the installation service.
